BERLIN (Sputnik) – Sanctions imposed against Russia over the Crimean Peninsula will continue, but if the European Union is discussing sanctions, it is over the situation in eastern Ukraine, German Foreign Ministry spokesman Martin Schaefer said Monday.
“We are not talking about sanctions that were imposed by the European Union over the annexation of Crimea. These sanctions will unambiguously be extended and prolonged. If there is any discussion on sanctions [currently in the European Union], then this is only on sanctions that were imposed in regard to Russia’s behavior [in eastern Ukraine],” Schaefer said during a briefing.
