MANILA (Sputnik) — Australian prime minister Malcolm Turnbull has arrived to the Philippines to join the leaders of Asia-Pacific economies for the APEC summit in Manila, a Sputnik correspondent reported Tuesday.
Trumbull has recently attended the G20 summit in Turkish city of Antalya and will go to Malaysia's Kuala Lumpur for the 27th ASEAN summit later this week.
Turnbull is expected to meet with US president Barack Obama, on the back of Australia pushing for stronger role in Syria and wants to increase its military commitment.
This will be their first official bilateral meeting, though the two had a brief exchange during the G20 summit in Turkey.
Australia is part of the US-backed Trans-Pacific Partnership, which was agreed upon in October after long negotiations, and is now expected to be closed in Manila.
