Russian President Vladimir Putin and Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmed al-Sabah will discuss on Monday a wide range of bilateral issues and the situation in the Middle East during a meeting in the Russian resort city of Sochi.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Monday, Sabah al-Ahmed al-Sabah began his three-day state visit to Russia at Putin's invitation.

The leaders are expected to discuss a wide range of bilateral issues, including economic ties, trade and military-technical cooperation, as well as thoroughly reviewing the situation in the Middle East and North Africa.

The meeting is expected to result in the signing of three agreements, namely on a visa-free regime for diplomatic and official passport holders, on cultural exchanges and an agreement between the transport ministries of Russia and Kuwait.

With diplomatic relations having first been established in 1963, Russia and Kuwait enjoy close relations and a long-standing tradition of state visits, diplomatic exchanges and military technology cooperation.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, Kuwait views Russia's presence in the Middle East as an important factor in ensuring security and stability in the region.
