Representatives of the Free Syrian Army have agreed to meet representatives of the Russian Defense and Foreign ministries in Abu Dhabi at the end of next week, one of the coordinators of the event told Sputnik.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Free Syrian Army representatives are in talks on holding a meeting with a Russian delegation, a political adviser with the group told Sputnik on Thursday.

"There is coordination underway on planning [the meeting], and we are waiting for them to cease airstrikes, so that we are able to assemble a delegation and hold a meeting," Suyuf al-Haqq Abu Jad said.

Free Syrian Army to Meet Russian Defense, Foreign Ministries Next Week
He underscored that the meeting could not take place unless Russia guaranteed that it would not target Free Syrian Army positions with its airstrikes.

According to Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov, Moscow is holding talks on a daily basis with "almost the whole spectrum" of the Syrian opposition factions as part of a reconciliation process in the country.

Russia has been assisting both the government and civilians in the war-torn Syria. Since September 30, Moscow has been conducting airstrikes on terrorist positions in the Middle Eastern country.

Moscow served as a host city for two rounds of talks between the Syrian leadership and the country's opposition, and has been holding intensive talks and meetings with a broad range of Syrian opposition factions.

Last week, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Moscow was in favor of the Free Syrian Army's participation in the Syrian reconciliation talks.
