Czech President Milos Zeman will not participate in a NATO Central and Eastern European Regional Summit scheduled to begin in Romania's capital on Wednesday, the Czech president's spokesman said.

PRAGUE (Sputnik) — The Central and Eastern European leaders will discuss the permanent presence of NATO armies in the region during the summit.

"President [Zeman] offered his personal apology to President of Poland Andrzej Duda at the summit of the Visegrad Four presidents [the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, and Slovakia] in Hungary at the beginning of October," Jiri Ovcacek said, quoted by the Czech newspaper Hospodarske Noviny.

Czechs Protest Against Country’s NATO Membership
According to the media outlet, the Czech Republic will be the only country not represented by a president. The Czech chairman of the Chamber of Deputies, Social Democrat Jan Hamacek, is set to represent the country in Bucharest.

Leaders from Baltic countries Romania, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Bulgaria are expected to participate in the summit initiated by Romania and Poland.
