Kerry told MIR TV channel that the US wanted to broaden its cooperation with Russia, but it depended on Moscow's decision concerning the Syrian political settlement.
"Of course, we plan to coordinate our actions with Russia, but we don't want to be limited to only this. We wound want [to cooperate] more, but it depends on Russia, on its decision with regard to the political aspect of the [Syria] peaceful settlement," the top US diplomat was quoted by the TV channel as saying.
He added that recent talks on the Syrian crisis settlement in Vienna had been very productive.
On October 30, top diplomats from the United States, Russia, Iran, China, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Egypt, Qatar, Lebanon and France, as well as UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura met in Vienna to discuss the settlement of the Syrian crisis.
"Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov chaired the meeting [in Vienna on Friday]. Both Russia and the United States managed to move toward a political solution to achieve peace [in Syria]. We definitely want to cooperate, not to oppose each other, but it depends on the choice that Russia would make," Kerry was quoted as saying.
Kerry yet again expressed concerns over the aims of the Russian anti-terrorist air campaign in Syria saying that if Moscow aims to defend Assad, a political settlement could not be achieved.
