MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov reached an agreement with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif to increase cooperation to ensure safety and stability in the Middle East, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement Saturday, following a phone conversation between the two ministers.

"The ministers agreed to further strengthen cooperation between Russia and Iran in the interests of stability and security in the Middle East," the  Foreign Ministry said.

The two ministers also agreed on “further strengthening of cooperation between Russia and Iran in the interests of stability and security in the Middle East region."
