Argentina-Russia Strategic Ties to Remain Same Regardless of Election
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russian President Vladimir Putin hopes that the new leadership of Argentina will continue the policy of developing and strengthening bilateral relations with Russia, the president said Wednesday.

"On October 25, Argentina holds presidential and parliamentary elections. I hope that the new Argentinian leadership will continue the course taken by you towards strengthening our multifaceted partnership," Putin said during a video linkup with President of Argentina Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner.

He added that the two countries are closely cooperating within the United Nations and G20, consistently upholding the fundamental principles of international law.

"The route is set and I am sure that the Argentinians will go along this route because there are results," Kirchner said.

In April, Kirchner met with Putin during an official visit to Moscow. The sides signed a number of cooperation deals and said that the bilateral ties between Moscow and Buenos Aires were strengthening.

According to the Argentinian Constitution, Kirchner, who won two previous general elections, cannot be re-elected for a third term.
