US President Barack Obama and South Korean President Park Geun-hye will meet at the White House on Friday to discuss North Korea’s nuclear program and other pressing issues, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said on Thursday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — In June, Park was forced to cancel a trip to Washington because of an outbreak of the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome in South Korea.

"There obviously will be ongoing discussion about the threat that is posed by North Korea and their ongoing refusal to abide by international standards when it comes to their nuclear program, and their tendency to engage in provocative acts," Earnest stated in a briefing.

Earnest added that Obama and Park also intend to discuss economic, security and global issues.

The bilateral meeting at the White House will be followed by a working lunch and a news conference.

US, South Korea Coordination on Common Strategic Interests

US Vice President Joe Biden and South Korean President Park Geun-hye discussed cooperation on shared strategic issues between the two countries during a meeting in Washington, DC, the White House said in a release on Thursday.

"The Vice President and President Park reviewed recent progress within the US-ROK [Republic of Korea] alliance — bilaterally, regionally and globally. The two discussed the importance of strong regional relations and close coordination on common strategic interests," the release stated.
