LONDON (Sputnik) — The sanctions the European Union has imposed against Russia must be maintained until the Minsk agreements on Ukrainian reconciliation are fully implemented, UK Prime Minister David Cameron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel said Friday.
"They agreed that the EU must maintain sanctions on Russia until the Minsk agreement is fully implemented," a Downing Street spokesperson said following a meeting between the two leaders.
Earlier in the day, Cameron and his Estonian counterpart also called for the anti-Russia sanctions to remain in place until all provisions of the Minsk peace plan on Ukrainian reconciliation were fully implemented.
The restrictive measures have been introduced over Russia's alleged participation in Ukraine's internal conflict, whereas Moscow has firmly denied the accusations of the West, repeatedly stating that economic restrictions are counterproductive.
