MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Moscow has taken note of US Undersecretary of State Victoria Nuland’s statement that Russia and the United States still have the possibility of working together to ease the tension in Syria, a diplomatic source said Wednesday.
"We’ve taken note of Nuland’s statement that the United States and Russia have the possibility of working together to ease tension, including in Syria," the diplomatic source told RIA Novosti.
The source then stated that it was unclear as yet what would wait the Arab state after remarks of this kind.
On Tuesday, Nuland said at the German Marshall Fund that Russia had an opportunity to be "a collaborative and cooperative stakeholder" to bring peace and stability to Syria.
At the same time, she asserted that the United States would not help Russia in bolstering the power of Syrian President Bashar Assad.
Russia’s Sukhoi Su-25, Su-24M and Su-34 attack aircraft, with the support of Su-30 jets, commenced precision airstrikes against IS targets in Syria on September 30, following a request from Assad.
