President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas on Wednesday called on Israel to stop further use of "brutal force" against Palestinians on occupied territories before it is too late.

He called up on Israel to bear responsibilities as an occupying power, saying that the situation was unsustainable.

"I call on the Israeli government before it is too late to seize its use of brutal force to impose its plans to undermine the Islamic and Christian sacred sites in Jerusalem, particularly, its actions at al-Aksa mosque," Abbas said in an address to the UN General Assembly in New York.

The Palestinian leader said that Israel has not stuck to the 1995 Oslo Accords that formed the basis for a two-state solution to the Middle East conflict.
