WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — International Monetary Fund's (IMF) Managing Director Christine Lagarde urged Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko to change the policy to restore sustainable growth of the country's economy, according to a statement by an IMF spokesperson.
“IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde and President Alexander Lukashenko met today to review the economic situation in Belarus and discuss prospects for an IMF-supported program. Ms. Lagarde welcomed some recent progress in strengthening the policy framework in Belarus, but emphasized that a more comprehensive reorientation of policies, consistently supported at the highest level, is needed to restore stability and sustainable growth,” the statement reads.
