Greek PM's UN General Assembly Schedule Omits Meeting With Obama

Alexis Tsipras’ meeting with Barack Obama at the UN General Assembly is not on the Greek leader’s schedule contrary to announcements.

ATHENS (Sputnik) – Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras’ meeting with US President Barack Obama at the UN General Assembly (UNGA) in New York is not on the recently re-elected Greek leader’s schedule contrary to announcements.

Tsipras’ left-wing Syriza party press service said this week the newly re-elected Greek leader will travel to New York, where he will hold talks with Obama on the sidelines of the UNGA.

The Greek prime minister’s schedule for the UNGA lists a meeting with US State Secretary John Kerry, New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio, and participation in a panel organized by former US President Bill Clinton’s initiative.

The previously announced sidelines meeting with the current US leader is not listed on the schedule published on Friday. Instead, Tsipras is scheduled to meet the presidents of Cyprus, Egypt, and Brazil among others.

Tsipras is due to travel to attend the commemorative 70th UNGA on September 27 and return to Athens on October 2.

Nikos Kotzias, the newly appointed Greek foreign minister, is slated to accompany Tsipras and meet with a number of colleagues, including from the United States, Russia and Turkey, and heads of international organizations.
