Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his Hungarian counterpart Peter Szijjarto held a phone conversation Friday, discussing the issue of illegal migration to Europe, Russia's Foreign Ministry said.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The talk was initiated by the Hungarian side.

"Some current bilateral Russian-Hungarian issues were discussed. The ministers exchanged views on the growing problem of illegal migration to the European Union, including Hungary," the ministry said in a statement.

Europe is currently struggling with the largest migrant crisis since World War II. Refugees from the Middle East and North Africa are transiting to prosperous EU countries, including Germany and Sweden, via various routes including Italy, Greece, Turkey and the Balkan states.
