Putin's UN Speech to Reaffirm Support for Organization's Key Security Role

Russian Presidential Aide Yuri Ushakov said that Putin's upcoming speech at the UN General Assembly will address key aspects on the international agenda, including issues relating to joint efforts to counter global terrorism.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russian President Vladimir Putin will reaffirm Moscow's commitment to support the central coordinating role of the United Nations with regard to all issues of international security, in his upcoming speech at the UN General Assembly, his aide said Friday.

Putin's speech at the 70th session of the UN General Assembly in New York is scheduled for the morning of September 28, Russian Presidential Aide Yuri Ushakov told reporters.

"As Russia considers the 70th anniversary of this organization to be very important, we see it necessary to stress our commitment to the organization continually playing a coordinating role in all the matters on the international agenda, in regard to international security issues," he said.

According to Ushakov, "these issues will undoubtedly be reflected in the speech of the president."

He added that Putin's speech will address key aspects on the international agenda, including issues relating to joint efforts to counter global terrorism.

On September 28, UN General Assembly will open the General Debate of its 70th session, during which Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon will introduce his report on the work of the United Nations.
