MOSCOW (Sputnik) – European leaders have not turned to Russia for help in receiving Syrian refugees, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Thursday.
"No, we know nothing about this," Peskov told journalists.
On Wednesday, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker called on EU member states to resettle a total of 160,000 migrants throughout the bloc on a "compulsory basis" over the next two years.
A quota for Syrian refugees is unrealistic for Russia; and the expenses of the migrant crisis should be shouldered by those responsible for the situation, Peskov noted.
"The fact is that, of course, we would expect both material and other costs of these processes to fall on those countries that once had to do with what led to a catastrophic situation in some countries of the Maghreb and the Middle East," Peskov told reporters.
