Ukrainian Local Elections as Pretext for New Anti-Russian Sanctions
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Klimkin met earlier on Monday with EU diplomacy chief Federica Mogherini in Brussels to discuss the situation in crisis-hit Ukraine and the implementation of the Minsk peace agreements reached on February 12.

Kiev authorities have set country-wide local elections for October 25. The LPR is planning to hold separate elections on November 1, while the DPR has decided to hold elections on October 18.

"Klimkin stressed that local elections on territories, which are temporarily not controlled by Kiev authorities, are unacceptable as they violate the Ukrainian legislation and will ultimately jeopardize the implementation of Minsk accords as well as the political settlement of the conflict," the Foreign Ministry cited Klimkin as saying at the talks.
