Hungary Summons French Envoy Over Criticism on Migration Policy

Hungarian Foreign Minister has summoned the French ambassador in Budapest over the critical remarks on the country's migration policies, made by French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius, according to a statement published Monday on the website of the Hungarian government.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Sunday, Fabius blamed eastern EU member states for their "scandalous" policies toward migrants, and Hungary in particular for construction of an anti-immigration fence on the country’s southern border with Serbia.

"[Foreign Minister Peter] Szijjarto declared that the Hungarian diplomatic corps cannot afford to ignore the recent statement, and so the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade has summoned the French charge d'affaires in order to officially inform her of the Hungarian government's position," the statement read.

On Saturday, Hungary completed construction of an anti-immigration 175-kilometer (108 miles) fence on the country’s southern border with Serbia, aimed to prevent the refugees to reach country's soil. The Hungarian authorities said that the erected fence would be accompanied by a more secure 13-foot wall, which is currently under construction.
