It's simply a matter of taking responsibility and doing what was promised, and it has nothing to do with trust between the sides, Fabius said.
"The Minsk agreements are the responsibility of everyone, as they define the conditions under which Ukraine could establish relations both with Russia and the EU. They [the Minsk agreements are our compass]," Fabius told Journal du Dimanche.
There is the agreement in place and all the belligerent sides need to do is to adhere to the existing document. Ukrainians should stop pointing the fingers at each other, talking about violations of the agreement from the opposite side; instead, they must concentrate on adhering to their own promises, Fabius commented on the Ukrainian conflict.
In February, the warring sides reached the so-called Minsk-2 deal, stipulating an immediate ceasefire, the withdrawal of heavy weaponry from the line of contact in Donbass, and the granting of more autonomy to the Lugansk and Donetsk regions.
Despite the agreement on a ceasefire, both Kiev and the local Donbass militia continue to accuse each other of violating the terms of the agreement.
The conflict started in April 2014 after the Ukrainian authorities launched a military operation to suppress militia in the eastern regions of Donbass.
