The United States has received an invitation to attend China’s victory parade commemorating the 70th anniversary of Japan's surrender in World War II, US State Department spokesperson Noel Clay told Sputnik on Friday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) —  In total, delegations from 30 countries are expected to attend the anniversary parade in Beijing.

“China has extended an invitation for US participation in its WWII commemoration event,” Clay said.

Washington has not yet decided whether to attend the commemoration.

“We will make available information about US participation closer to the event,” Clay said.

On September 3, China will mark 70 years since the surrender of Japan in World War II.

Russia's ambassador to China Andrey Denisov told journalists on Thursday that this year's celebration in China will be attended by almost all the heads of state of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).

Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to arrive in Beijing on September 2 to attend a formal dinner hosted by Chinese President Xi Jinping.
