Lavrov: Russia, US Agree Fight Against ISIL Must Be Intensified

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Tuesday that Russia and the United States have a mutual understanding that the fight against the Islamic State extremist group must be intensified.

VIENNA (Sputnik) — Lavrov said after a meeting with US Secretary of State John Kerry on the sidelines of Iran nuclear talks in Vienna:

"We have a mutual understanding with our US colleagues that the situation requires more actions."

"There is also an understanding that it is necessary to strongly discourage opportunistic attempts to use terrorist groups to achieve short-term goals, including political goals aimed against certain regimes."
