MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The Russia’s foreign minister expressed concerns over the increased terrorist activities in parts of the Middle East fueled by armed conflicts in Libya, Syria, Iraq and Yemen.

He added that the confrontation lines in the Islamic world often coincided with the lines of confessional division.

"At a time when all these threats increase, a truly large-scale view of the things and an understanding of the strategic trends of the processes is required," Lavrov said.

He expressed hope that participants of the meeting, continuing until June 12, would work on ways to address these burning issues.

The "Russia-Islamic World" strategic vision group was founded in 2006 with the aim of promoting relations between 18 predominantly Muslim countries and Russia.
