Middle East Quartet Discusses Israeli-Palestinian Talks Revival

The Middle East Quartet, comprising Russia, the European Union, the United States and the United Nations have discussed the resumption of Israeli-Palestinian negotiations, Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement Friday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The meeting took place June 5 at the Russian Mission to the UN in Geneva. Russia was represented by Sergei Vershinin, the director of the Middle East and North Africa department of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

"The focus [of the meeting] has been on discussion of … Israeli-Palestinian settlement and… revival of talks between the two parties,” the statement read.

In the framework of the peace process, Palestinians seek diplomatic recognition of their independent state on the territories of the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, partially occupied by Israel, and the Gaza Strip.
