The situation concerning the deadly crash of the Malaysia Airlines MH17 flight in Ukraine's southeast in July 2014 is part of a full-scale campaign against Russia, member of the Left Party parliamentary group in the Bundestag Andrej Hunko said at a news briefing in Moscow.

Malaysia Airlines flight MH17, en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, crashed near Donetsk on July 17, 2014, killing all 298 people on board. Kiev forces and independence supporters have repeatedly blamed each other for the tragedy.

"I believe that the [Malaysia Airlines] Boeing crash is part of a full-scale campaign against the Russian Federation, which was used as a pretext for imposing sanctions against Russia."

The investigation into the crash is headed by the Dutch Safety Board. According to a September preliminary report, the plane was hit by multiple high-energy objects causing it to break up in mid-air. The final report on the crash is due by October 2015.

"The investigation is headed by the Netherlands, [but] up to date they have not given any answers with regard to who bears responsibility for the crash of this plane," Hunko added.
