Canada May Provide $25 Mln Aid to Ukraine

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko discussed during a meeting with Canada's Foreign Minister Robert Douglas Nicholson Monday the allocation more than 30 million Canadian dollars ($25 million) to Ukraine in aid for "humanitarian purposes and the development of democratic institutions."

KIEV (Sputnik) — Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko also thanked Ottawa for sending military instructors to train Ukrainian soldiers, the statement on the president's website read.

In April, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced that Canada will deploy 200 troops to Ukraine as part of a training mission.

The Canadians will reportedly provide Kiev troops with expertise in countering explosives, and give guidance on logistics, military policing, medical and flight safety training, starting this summer. The troops will remain in Ukraine until 2017.

The Canadian foreign minister added that his country will continue to support Ukraine.

The United States and the United Kingdom are also providing Kiev forces with military training, as well as other non-lethal aid. The two countries have sent military instructors to the conflict-torn Ukraine in March for training sessions.
