RIGA (Sputnik) — Opening the ECOFIN meeting, Dombrovskis said that the EU economy and finance ministers hoped to see progress on all issues concerning Europe's economic growth, including loans to Greece.

German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble appeared less optimistic. He complained that talks on the Greek bailout were moving ahead too slowly, and said he did not expect much from the Riga meeting.

The 28 EU finance ministers are meeting for Eurogroup talks on Friday where they are expected to discuss the current economic situation in Greece, among other issues.

Athens was to work out an economic reform plan before the April 24 meeting with EU finance ministers in order to receive its next financial aid package. It runs the risk of defaulting on its debt to the European Union and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), estimated at some $270 billion.
