Libyan Prime Minister to Visit Russia April 14

Abdullah Thinni will be on an official visit to Moscow on April 14 after his previous visits were postponed due to domestic problems in the country.

BAYDA (Libya) (Sputnik) – Libyan Prime Minister Abdullah Thinni will visit Russia on April 14, the prime minister’s press service told Sputnik on Friday.

“Prime Minister Abdullah Thinni will be on an official visit to Moscow on the 14th of this month after previous visits were postponed due to domestic problems in the country,” the press service said.

On Thursday, Russian Ambassador to Libya Ivan Molotkov told RIA Novosti that bilateral cooperation, as well as the situation in the Arab republic hand how Russia can help settle it will be on the agenda.

On March 13, Libyan Army General Khalifa Haftar told Sputnik that the delegation visiting Russia would discuss arms deliveries.

In February, Mohamed Abdelaziz, ambassador-at-large for the Libyan parliament, said Libya hoped it would continue cooperation with Russia in the areas of military training and modern weapons provision, as the two countries have been cooperating in military and technical sphere for almost 40 years.

Libya has been in turmoil after long-standing leader Muammar Gaddafi was overthrown in 2011 amid anti-government protests known as the Arab Spring, with government forces fighting numerous militias.

An internationally recognized government in the country based in Tobruk, the Council of Deputies, is rivaled by the self-proclaimed General National Congress, based in the capital city of Tripoli.
