Breakthrough Deal Reached at Iran Nuclear Talks in Lausanne
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Iranian leader also stressed that world powers had finally accepted Tehran's right to enrich uranium as part of its civilian program.

On Thursday, Tehran and the P5+1 countries, comprising Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom, China, France and Germany agreed a political framework for a comprehensive agreement aimed at ensuring the peaceful nature of Iranian nuclear activities.

"If the other side keeps its promises, Iran will keep its promises," Rouhani said in a televised address from Tehran.

According to the new deal reached in Lausanne, Iran will reduce the number of its centrifuges from the current 19,000 installed to 6,104, with only 5,060 of them enriching uranium. Tehran also promised not to enrich uranium over 3.67 percent for 15 years and to reduce its stockpile from 10,000 kilograms (about 22,000 pounds) of low-enriched uranium (LEU) to 300 kg (660 lbs) of 3.67 percent LEU for at least the same period of time.

Rouhani added that "more than a thousand centrifuges will be active" as a result of Thursday's deal struck with P5+1 negotiators following last-ditch marathon talks.

The final comprehensive deal on the Iranian nuclear program is expected to be reached by July 1, 2015.
