UK Election Season Kicks Off With Labour, Conservative Major Rivals
LONDON (Sputnik) – The executives, whose companies employ about half a million people, praised the Conservative Party's reduction of the corporation tax from 28 to 20 percent, saying the move made the country “open for business.”

The letter was signed by several well-known business figures, including BP CEO Bob Dudley and CEO of Associated British Foods George Weston.

“The result is that Britain grew faster than any other major economy last year and businesses like ours have created over 1.85m new jobs. We believe a change in course will threaten jobs and deter investment. This would send a negative message about Britain and put the recovery at risk,” the letter reads.

Wednesday's address is so far the biggest sign of the business world's support for the Conservative Party ahead of the UK general election, slated for May 7.

The Labour Party called the support proclamation an organized campaign, vowing to reverse the corporation tax cut if it won the upcoming election.
