MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The postponed meeting of Russian, Belarusian and Kazakh presidents may take place "possibly next week," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told RIA Novosti Thursday.
Russian President Vladimir Putin was to visit Astana on March 12-13 for the three-party meeting with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko and Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev. However, Peskov said Wednesday the meeting was postponed "for several days."
The Kremlin said on March 9, that prospects for trade and economic cooperation between the three countries in the context of modern trends in the world economy would be the primary topic of discussion, as well as focusing on Eurasian integration.
A bilateral meeting between Putin and Nazarbayev is also scheduled. The Kazakh president's press service said the "issues of strengthening bilateral trade and economic partnership" is on the agenda.
The three countries are members of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), intended to ensure the free flow of goods, services, capital and labor among its member states. The union came into effect January 1, 2015.
