WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — European Council President Donald Tusk is visiting the White House on Monday to discuss with US President Barack Obama the coordinated international approach to confront Russia over the situation in Ukraine, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest told journalists during a press briefing.
The two leaders' meeting agenda also includes discussions about the Trans-Atlantic trade and investment partnership, energy security, climate change and the situation in Libya, according to the White House.
Earnest went on to say that at present has no announcement regarding additional sanctions against Russia that the United States may contemplate to impose.
The White House is concerned that Organization for Security and Co-operation (OSCE) monitors do not have full access to the conflict zone in Eastern Ukraine to verify compliance with the Minsk implementation plan, Earnest said.
Tusk was reported as saying on Sunday that European Union member states could not come to a unanimous decision regarding additional sanctions against Russia.
The West has imposed several rounds of sanctions against Russia over its alleged involvement in the Ukrainian crisis, claims that Moscow has repeatedly denied. The EU has stressed that the lifting of the sanctions depends heavily on the successful implementation of the Minsk truce agreements.
