MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel arrived in Japan Monday to discuss issues of energy, climate change, Tokyo's ties with its neighbors and free trade with Japanese Prime Minister counterpart Shinzo Abe, Deutsche Welle reported.

During her two-day visit, Merkel will meet Abe following an audience with Emperor Akihito. The German Chancellor is expected to push for investment in renewable energy, as well as for shutdown of Japan's nuclear energy plants following Fukushima plant meltdown.

"In light of the lessons in the experience of Fukushima, we would like for Japan to undertake the same road as Germany," Merkel told NHK broadcaster ahead of her trip. After the 2010 Fukushima disaster, Germany announced plans to close all of its nuclear plants by 2022.

Japan's relations with China and South Korea, the situation in Ukraine, international terrorism and a possibility of a free trade agreement are also on the agenda of talks, according to Deutsche Welle.
