UN Secretary-General Welcomes Lesotho's Elections, Calls for Democratic Law
“The Secretary-General congratulates the people of the Kingdom of Lesotho on the peaceful conduct of the parliamentary elections on 28 February,” the UN said in a statement published on its website on Sunday.

Lesotho has been rocked by a series of military coups since it broke away from Britain in 1966. In 2014, Prime Minister Thomas Thabane fled the country to South Africa accusing the army of staging a coup and suspended the parliament.

On February 28, Lesotho citizens voted in a snap election aimed at resolving political tensions following 2014 crisis. Over 1.2 million people were registered to vote. The results are expected to be released in the next days.
