WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – US Agency for International Development (USAID) acting assistant administrator Susan Fritz is travelling to three countries in the Caucasus to meet with government officials and civil society, USAID said in a statement on Friday.

“US Agency for International Development (USAID) Acting Assistant Administrator for Europe and Eurasia Susan Fritz will travel to Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia from February 20 — March 5,” the statement said. “Fritz's visit will include meetings with government officials, civil society, international partners, and USAID staff in these countries.”

USAID has been widely criticized for meddling in other countries’ internal political affairs. An investigation by the Associated Press found that USAID secretly created a social media network in Cuba aimed at destabilizing the country’s communist government. Ecuador and Bolivia have both expelled the organization because of concerns about its activities.

The agency’s mission is to eradicate poverty, promote democracy, and advance the goals of US foreign policy, according to USIAD’s mission statement.
