French President Francois Hollande and German Chancellor Angela Merkel were in Moscow Friday to hold a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the crisis situation in Ukraine. Hollande and Merkel were in Kiev the day before to discuss the same issue with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko.
“I would like to say openly that this is the first time I’ve seen the readiness of two heads of state working together and working out a common strategy, and not just working like a German or like a Frenchman, they are working together for all of Europe,” Schulz said.
He added that European leaders tend to react more slowly in comparison to Russia’s foreign policy.
“Russia’s foreign policy is much more active, the Russians create facts, but the Europeans react very slowly. I could use the German expression ‘moving along like a snail.’ But on the other hand, snails can hide in their home whenever the weather turns bad,” Schulz said.
