WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Foreign allies from the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United States met in London on Friday to discuss how they could collaborate on a range of security issues, the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said in a statement following the meeting.

“Continuing the successful cooperation and joint work among the Five Countries on issues of security, serious and organized crime and cooperative border management, the ministers discussed a range of national security issues: counter terrorism; foreign fighters, and in particular those traveling to participate in terrorist organizations in Syria and elsewhere; foreign investment in critical infrastructure; online threats; and information sharing,” the DHS statement, issued on Friday, read.

The allies also discussed how they could address emerging cyberthreats to critical infrastructure and collaborate on information sharing on intelligence and foreign investing, countering violent extremism, and on a various organized crime issues.

“The Ministers reaffirmed the importance of working collaboratively on national security issues and agreed to continue to meet to address issues of mutual concern,” the DHS statement read. “The next meeting will be in Canada in 2016.”

The meeting between the foreign allies follows US President Barack Obama unveiling his 2015 US National Security on Friday morning. The strategy outlines that Washington can use military force, unilaterally if necessary, when US citizens are threatened and when the security of US allies is endangered. The strategy also ensured that the United States will train and equip local partners in order to strengthen their efforts to fight against terrorism.
