As part of China’s UN Security Council presidency, the council will hold an open meeting on February 23-24 to discuss compliance with the goals and principles of the UN charter.
“States are invited to participate at a ministerial level. The issue of Lavrov’s visit is being considered,” the source said.
The Security Council presidency rotates monthly based on alphabetical order of the 15 member states' English-language names.
In addition to China, Russia, the United States, France and the United Kingdom, the five permanent members with veto powers, the UN Security Council includes 10 non-permanent members elected on a bi-annual basis.
