PACE President Visits Kiev for Presidential Committee Meeting: Staff Member

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe staff member said that the organization's President is arriving to the Ukrainian capital Thursday.

MOSCOW, January 15 (Sputnik) — The President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Anne Brasseur is arriving to the Ukrainian capital Thursday for two days to participate in the Presidential Committee meeting, the organization's staff member told RIA Novosti.

"It is expected that the [Presidential] Committee will meet with the president, the prime minister, a speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, the foreign minister, the leaders of parliamentary political groups as well as with representatives of the Ukrainian delegation to PACE," the staff member told the news agency.

PACE's Presidential Committee consists of the President of the Assembly, the heads of its five political groups and the Assembly’s Secretary General.

It is expected that the current humanitarian situation in Ukraine will be discussed at the upcoming winter session in end of January.

As a result of a military operation launched by Kiev against local independence supporters in mid-April, 2014, Ukraine’s eastern regions of Donetsk and Luhansk have been suffering from a severe humanitarian crisis.
