WASHINGTON, January 14 (Sputnik) — The United States and Russia might continue cooperation on counterterrorism actions, even though the two countries do not agree on certain issues, Deputy Spokesperson of US State Department Marie Harf said Tuesday.

“Counterterrorism is one of those areas, you know, we always say there are areas we can work with the Russians on, despite our disagreements on other things,” Harf said during a press briefing.

Harf added that Russia, as well as the United States, is focused on the counterterrorism issues, which have been discussed during regular bilateral meetings.

International counterterrorism measures have been in the spotlight after recent terrorist attacks in France that left 17 people dead.

The joint efforts of the United States and Russia had been focused on preventing weapons of mass destruction from falling into the hands of terrorists, and halting the funding of terrorist activities, as well as recruitment of terrorists, according to the State Department. However, all activities in the context of the Counterterrorism Working Group of the Bilateral Presidential Commission have been suspended after the Ukrainian crisis and NATO forces build-up along Russian border.
