    Ban Ki-moon Praises Modi for Improving Socio-Economic Situation in India

    UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon praises Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for India's improving socio-economic well-being, as well as for the country's contribution to the work of the UN.

    UNITED NATIONS, January 11 (Sputnik) — During his current visit to India, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon held talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, and praised him for improving socio-economic well-being of all Indian people.

    According to the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon “expressed his admiration for the Prime Minister’s focus on improving the socio-economic well-being of all Indian people and encouraged further progress”.

    Earlier on Sunday, at the Vibrant Gujurat summit Ban also commended Modi’s initiative to increase share of solar and wind power in India’s energy mix.

    UN Secretary General also spoke about India’s contribution to the work of the UN, thanking the country for its humanitarian efforts and participation in peacekeeping operations.

    During the meeting, Modi and Ban Ki-moon discussed the need for urgent action of climate change and the most acute regional issues.

    Following his visit to India, Ban Ki-moon will travel to Honduras and El Salvador.
