MOSCOW, December 3 (Sputnik) — Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov held consultations with representatives of the Swiss Foreign Ministry, during which both sides emphasized the need to enhance the role of the United Nations in resolving crises around the world.
"There was general agreement on the need to improve the effectiveness of the United Nations as an indispensable mechanism for finding adequate responses to the threats and challenges of our time," a statement published on the Russian Foreign Ministry's website Wednesday says.
On December 2 in Bern, Gatilov met senior officials from the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA), including the head of its United Nations and International Organizations Division, Ambassador Jurg Lauber.
Both sides also exchanged views on their cooperation in the United Nations in the context of upcoming 70th anniversary celebrations of the establishment of the organization that was created following the end of World War II.
