MOSCOW, December 1 (Sputnik) — Russia is ready to support in the Security Council the resolution, proposed by the Palestinians, setting time limits to end Israel's occupation, Nikita Zhukov, acting director of the Foreign Ministry's Department of International Organizations, said Monday.
"We have announced Russia's readiness to support draft UN Security Council resolution defining the time limits to end Israeli occupation in case of voting," Zhukov said at the meeting at the International Information Agency Rossiya Segodnya press centre marking the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.
"High level of the Russian-Palestinian relations is greatly valued in Russia," Zhukov said, adding that Russia's President Vladimir Putin personally pays close attention to the Russian policy toward Palestine.
In early October, Palestinians worked out a draft UN Security Council resolution that defines strict time limits for Israel to end its occupation and remove settlements before November 2016.
Palestinians seek the creation of an independent state on the territories of the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, partially occupied by Israel and the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip, and want Israel to withdraw from the Palestinian territories it took after the 1967 war.
The State of Palestine has been recognized by 135 out of 193 member states of the United Nations. Russia and China are the only members of the UN Security Council who have given full diplomatic state recognition to Palestinians.
