Russia's Foreign Ministry stated that position of Ukraine at the UN voting on the resolution condemning glorification of Nazism ideology is deplorable and alarming.

MOSCOW, November 22 (Sputnik) — The position of Ukraine at the UN voting on the resolution condemning glorification of Nazism ideology is deplorable and alarming, Russia's Foreign Ministry said Saturday.

The United States, Canada and Ukraine were the only three countries that voted against the resolution supported by the majority of the UN members on Friday.

"The position of Ukraine is particularly deplorable and alarming. It is hard to understand, how the country, whose people have fully experienced the horrors of Nazism and made a remarkable contribution to overall victory over it, can vote against the document condemning its [Nazism] glorification," the announcement released by the ministry's information and press department said.

The Russian Foreign Ministry hopes that the adoption of the resolution will send “a clear message to those countries where the need to take most urgent steps to counter the increasingly frequent attempts to glorify Nazism ideology is of long date”.

On Friday, the UN General Assembly’s Third Committee passed the resolution proposed by Russia with 115 votes against three. The resolution condemns attempts to glorify Nazism and deny German Nazi war crimes.

The member states voiced their concern over the rise of nationalism and xenophobia and an increasing number of race-based hate crimes around the world.
