MOSCOW, November 21 (Sputnik) — The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has not provided any documents supporting its claims about the Iranian nuclear program, Iran’s ambassador to the agency Reza Najafi said Friday.
“We had earlier responded to the agency about the claimed cases, but the IAEA has thus far presented no authentic document about them so that we could discuss and clarify respectively,” Najafi was cited as saying by the Islamic Republic News Agency.
According to the ambassador, the allegations against the Iranian nuclear program are baseless lies and IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano's evaluations are biased.
He also stated that Amano’s participation in the Iran-P5+1 negotiations is ineffective, stressing that “issues discussed in the nuclear negations are different in nature”.
On Thursday, Amano said in a statement that Iran is yet to submit any proposals for practical solutions to resolve disputable issues over its nuclear program to the agency.
The final round of Tehran’s talks with the P5+1 group, comprising Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, China and Germany, began in Vienna on Tuesday.
Tehran claims its nuclear development is aimed purely at civilian needs, such as meeting the country’s growing energy needs. However, the West suspects Iran of developing a nuclear weapon under the guise of a peaceful program. Iran is currently subject to sanctions passed by the UN Security Council, the European Union, the United States, and a number of other countries.
