President of the National Council of Slovakia Pavol Paska reportedly could not stand 'hatred and deception' that impeded his work.

MOSCOW, November 16 (Sputnik) — The President of the National Council of Slovakia (parliament) Pavol Paska announced his resignation due to a private matter on Sunday.

Pavol Paska, who is also one of the leaders of the ruling party 'Direction — Social Democracy' (Smer-SD), has announced that he is leaving his post and handing over his parliamentary mandate, SME Slovak newspaper reported.

According to Paska, for 15 years of his political career, he has never found himself in such an atmosphere of 'hatred and deception' as he is in now.

"This would be better for our party and for my family," Paska was quoted as saying by SME.

On November 10 opposition parties tried unsuccessfully to make Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico resign accusing him of increasing the corruption level and misfeasance. Having failed to achieve results with Fico's resignation, the opposition charged Paska with the same accusations.

Slovak Prime Minister Fico accepted Paska's resignation. The question about the new speaker of the National Council will be tackled at the next session of the parliament.

Smer-SD party has been staying in power in Slovakia since April 2012, when it won early parliamentary elections, gaining 83 deputy mandates from 150.
