YEREVAN, October 27 (RIA Novosti) — A trilateral meeting of the presidents of Armenia, Azerbaijan and France within the frameworks of the negotiation process on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict has begun in Paris on Monday.

An official dinner will be held after the tripartite meeting of the presidents on behalf of the President of France Francois Hollande in honor of Armenia's Serzh Sargsyan and Azerbaijan's Ilham Aliyev.

Earlier on Monday in Paris, a meeting between Sargsyan and Aliyev was held. Bilateral and trilateral talks are held on the initiative of French President.

In August, a trilateral meeting between the presidents of Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan focused on the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh took place in the Southern Russian resort city of Sochi.

The OSCE Minsk Group, co-chaired by the United States, Russia and France, has been trying to find a solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict since 1992.

The conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh began in February 1988, after the predominantly Armenian-populated Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Region announced its secession from the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic. In 1991 the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic was established. The Azerbaijani authorities did not recognize the decision and abolished the autonomous status of Nagorno-Karabakh.

The move triggered an armed conflict, which lasted until May 12, 1994 and led to Azerbaijan losing all control over Nagorno-Karabakh and several adjacent districts.
