MOSCOW, October 27 (RIA Novosti) — Syria's Foreign Minister Walid Muallem will visit Moscow, Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov announced Monday.
"Now we are organizing the visit of your Foreign Minister Walid Muallem, who will come to Moscow," Bogdanov said at his meeting with Syria's Grand Mufti Ahmad Badreddin Hassoun.
Bogdanov noted that Russia works with its "friends in Damascus in various directions".
Syrian party has confirmed the information and positively assessed the planned visit.
"We discussed this visit some time ago, and it is good that the Russian party has taken the initiative to announce about the visit. We will pay a visit to Moscow and we hope to enhance bilateral relations," Syria's Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad told RIA Novosti.
Russia and Syria have a long-standing tradition of cooperation, especially in the military and economic spheres.
