European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso congratulated Ukrainian people on the country's snap parliamentary elections in a tweet today.

MOSCOW, October 27 (RIA Novosti) -  European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso congratulated Ukrainian citizens on the country' early parliamentary elections in a tweet Monday.

Currently, People's Front is ahead in the polls with 21.6 percent of the popular vote, with the country's current president's Petro Poroshenko's Bloc close behind with 21.51 percent, according to the Central Election Commission.

The two leaders are followed by the Samopomich (Self-Help) party headed by Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovy, with 10.9 percent of the votes, the Opposition Bloc with 9.77 percent, Oleh Lyashko's nationalist Radical Party with 7.47 percent of the votes and Batkivshchyna (Fatherland) party headed by former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko with 5.77 percent.

The remaining parties running in the Verkhovna Rada elections have not passed the 5-percent threshold.

Early parliamentary elections were held in Ukraine on Sunday. Ukraine's Central Election Commission said Monday that voter turnout stood at 52.42 percent according to data compiled from all 198 districts.
