MOSCOW, October 18 (RIA Novosti) - Hong Kong authorities are capable to provide security and economic stability for foreign investors over the long term, Premier of the People's Republic of China Li Keqiang told Rossiya-1 TV channel Saturday.
China's Premier Li Keqiang stated in the interview to Rossiya-1 that Hong Kong authorities can protect property and interests of foreign investors in unstable conditions, noting that the situation in Hong Kong "is changing daily." Moreover, Chinese authorities pursue a definite policy in this region, and the developments there are solely domestic affairs of the country, according to Keqiang.
Protests in Hong Kong started on October 26 by Occupy Central with Love and Peace group to oppose the plans of Chinese government to control Hong Kong 2017 leadership election.
Protesters claim Beijing has breached its pledge to allow universal suffrage in Hong Kong and maintain the city's autonomy under "one country, two systems" formula, which was promised when Hong Kong was handed back to China by Britain in 1997.
The Chinese Communist Party has accused the US of meddling in China's affairs concerning Hong Kong and encouraging protests.
